Our aims are to show cultural and educational solidarity with the Ghirass Children's Cultural Centre, Bethlehem, Palestine by fundraising to promote visits from the Centre to Leicester and other UK cities. These visits include exciting performances of traditional Palestinain dance (dabke) and song and drumming. We also raise awareness of the plight of Palestinian people living under illegal Israeli occupation. We network with schools and agencies and host families to build up as much grassroots support as possible. Fundraising activities include: sponsored walks, meals, ceilidhs, performances by Red Leicester Choir, cake and book and clothes sales. Schools fundraise through non-uniform days and talks at assemblies. During visits from our Palestinian guests, we arrange performances in schools and public events including dance at Leicester Cathedral, Highfields Community Centre, dance as part of Refugee Week and drumming sessions.
